Hoquarton Wetlands
The Hoquarton Slough is a complex wetland and riparian habitat in the heart of the City of Tillamook.
On the north side of Hoquarton Slough, east of Highway 101 is a 19.48 acre forested wetland that the City of Tillamook purchased from a private landowner. The City acquired these lands to incorporate them into the Hoquarton Interpretive Trail, which is currently under development. TEP raised the funds for this acquisition through grants from the Department of Land Conservation and Development and Oregon Parks Service.
The Hoquarton wetlands and those to the west represent one of the area's few remaining tidal spruce swamps, and has been identified in the Tillamook Riparian Inventory of 1999 as "the least disturbed, highest functioning riparian resources in [the City of] Tillamook." The acquired property will provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and environmental education as well as continuing to function as a crucial unobstructed floodway.
